Golfing in South Lake Tahoe
Set along the south shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe, Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course is arguably one of the most scenic golf courses in the world. Designed by George Fazio and opened in 1968, Edgewood is rated by Golf Digest Magazine as one of "America's Top Golf Courses." Challenging yet fair, this course offers a choice of four sets of tees, ranging in length from 5567 yards to a demanding 7555, providing a suitable test for golfers of all skill levels.
Throughout its storied history, Edgewood Tahoe has played host to a variety of major golf events. In 1980, the 55th annual US Public Links Championship came to Edgewood Tahoe, the first U.S.G.A. event to be held in Nevada.
The U.S.G.A. returned to Edgewood Tahoe in 1985 for U.S. Senior Open Championship, when Miller Barber captured the title as the only player in the field to manage to break par on the course's demanding layout. Making birdie on three of the first four holes of the final round, Barber's three-under-par total bested Roberto De Vicenzo by four strokes for Barber's second consecutive Senior Open title. This also happened to be the first Senior Open to be televised, at that time broadcasted on an unknown sports network called ESPN.
Most notably, for the last twenty years Edgewood Tahoe has been the home of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship. Each year, this star-studded event features some of the biggest names in sports, entertainment and politics. A favorite on the celebrity circuit, this tournament regularly features such big names as Donald Trump, Michael Jordan, John Elway, Mario Lemieux, Charles Barkeley, Don Cheadle, Stone Phillips, Lou Holtz, Jim McMahon, and Ray Romano. Sponsored by American Century Investments and featured on NBC annually, the Celebrity Golf Championship is an event for the entire family. Next year's Championship will be held July 13-18, 2009.
Edgewood Tahoe Restaurant
Built like an alpine chateau, with two graduated levels to offer an unimpeded view for every patron, the restaurant's tables look directly out across the lake, with the unparalleled view framed by sweeping wooden archways and vaulted ceilings. When seated, diners have only a few dozen feet of white sand between them and the lake water.
Executive Chef Frank Stagnaro regularly crafts new and exciting menus to keep both visitors and locals coming back for more. Savvy customers will notice the menu blends fixtures of high-end dining with an appreciation for simplicity.
Appetizers like the Grilled Diver Scallops in ginger sauce and the Ahi & Avocado Napoleon push diners in exciting new directions, while everyday specials make excellent use of local produce and seafood. The entrée menu speaks to lovers of intelligently designed cuisine: complex but never confusing, complete and fulfilling, strong meaty dishes combined with a variety of international flavors. Dishes like fresh Tasmanian King Salmon with wild mushrooms or Fresh Ahi Tuna with wasabi crème illustrate the restaurant's range while never losing sight of the ultimate goal: a satisfying meal.
And of course, with its stunning location, Edgewood Tahoe has long been the ideal spot for important events such as engagements, anniversaries, private parties and the like. Edgewood Tahoe has a long tradition of being the premier special event venue in the area, with people flying from the world over to enjoy its stunning views and unparalleled service. We always want our guest to have a very memorable experience when they stay in one of our South Lake Tahoe Lodgings. A great rental to come home to after a beautiful dinner here would be our Black Bart House. It is truly on par with the beauty of both South Lake Tahoe and Edgewood Restaurant.
